Mobile systems engineer · Miami Beach

Jonathan Gan

I build mobile products at the edge of software and the physical world.

From camera protocols and HealthKit to on-device intelligence, I turn difficult technical systems into calm, direct product experiences.

01Operating principle

Software disappears when every layer feels considered.

I’m a Miami Beach–based engineer with 7+ years in software and 5+ years shipping React Native systems across iOS, Android, and watchOS. My work lives at the seam between tactile product design and difficult technical systems.

I own the complete path from architecture to release: Expo and React Native, Swift and Kotlin modules, native hardware, CI/CD, signing, App Store delivery, and the unglamorous final details that turn a prototype into a product.

02Selected systems

Proof, not pitch.

Production releases, public software, and working interfaces across hardware, health, commerce, and entertainment.

Expo Sony Camera

A cross-platform native module that lets an Expo interface see through and control a physical Sony camera—live view, remote capture, and structured failures without leaving React Native.

Experimental 0.x software, validated on selected Sony and Android paths. The evidence stays as precise as the engineering.

TypeScript · Expo · Server authority

ReelAgree

Movie-night planning with a better social contract: everyone votes privately, the server protects the suspense, and consensus appears only when the room is ready.

TypeScript · Swift · HealthKit · Local AI

PrepAI

Private health intelligence designed around an unusually strict premise: supported AI processing and core health records stay on the phone, while essential tracking remains useful offline.

TypeScript · Expo · Cloudflare

ListingOS

A camera-first seller workflow that turns a few product photos into a review-ready eBay draft with generated details and comparable-backed pricing context.

The public demo is intentionally non-mutating; fixed-price publishing was validated separately behind explicit seller approval.

PushUp Timer Pro

A published workout timer made for the smallest production surface: one-handed interactions, HealthKit integration, and release engineering for Apple Watch.

2024 — Present

Freelance Software Engineer

Independent · Remote

Own architecture, native Swift and Kotlin integrations, backend delivery, signing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration across Expo and React Native products—including App Store and hardware-integrated releases shipped as sole contributor.

2022 — 2024

Senior Analyst III / Delivery Cloud Engineer

Kin + Carta

Shipped responsive React and enterprise systems for Syngenta Digital, audited Java code, and automated cloud delivery steps under regulated constraints. Piloted practical LLM use in internal delivery workflows.

2021 — 2022

React / React Native Developer

ChainBytes LLC

Built mobile and web interfaces for a Bitcoin ATM platform, including real-time transaction states and wallet functionality across balance, deposit, and transfer flows.

Earlier: Accusoft · BlockSpaces · theCoderSchool, mentoring 30+ students through web, game, and mobile curriculum. B.S. Information Science, University of South Florida.

Bring me the hard part.

The native integration. The physical device. The privacy constraint. The release that must actually survive contact with production.
